Tragedy in Larnaca: 51-Year-Old Romanian Killed in Accident
A fatal accident in Larnaca claimed the life of 51-year-old George Remus Strunoiu, a Romanian national and permanent resident of Nicosia. The driver responsible for the incident has been detained—he was trying to help but tragically ended up causing the accident.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday around 2:20 PM on a dirt road near the Dipotamos Dam in Kato Lefkara.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles and a man lying motionless on the ground.
Preliminary investigations suggest that one driver was attempting to jump-start another vehicle using cables when he accidentally ran over the owner of the second car.
Immediately after the accident, the driver left the scene to seek help and returned shortly after with two others to assist the injured man.
An ambulance rushed the victim to Nicosia General Hospital, but despite doctors’ efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 4:40 PM.
Police tested the suspect for alcohol and drugs, and both results came back negative. He was arrested, questioned, and later released on the condition that he appears for further legal proceedings.
Larnaca Traffic Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
