Injured Residents of Cyprus Urged Not to Delay Doctor Visits Until Evening
The Cyprus Health Organization OKYPY reports that emergency departments are overcrowded in the evenings. Injured citizens, especially those with minor injuries like sprains or fevers, often wait until nightfall before seeking medical assistance.
"This can also be seen in the number of incidents our medical staff face. The General Hospital in Nicosia is a prime example. On Monday, there were a total of 122 adult cases, with 46 of them registered during the night shift," noted OKYPY representative Charalambos Charilaou.
Typically, the highest number of visits is recorded in the afternoon. However, in recent days, many people with minor injuries prefer to wait until nighttime before heading to the medical center.
According to medical staff, this trend "creates problems" because emergency departments often lack specialists during the night shift, leading to queues and making it difficult for healthcare workers to manage.
"We ask citizens to cooperate. If they have an accident at the beach or elsewhere, they should seek help immediately rather than waiting until night," OKYPY urged.
It was also noted that Cyprus continues to see a high influx of patients with symptoms of heat exhaustion. Cases of COVID-19 and other infections, as well as minor accidents and injuries, are also being reported.
