Turkey has become the top destination for Russians during the May holidays
According to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia, demand for tours to Turkey during the May holidays has increased by 1.5-2.5 times compared to last year.
Most Russian citizens prefer to vacation in Antalya - this resort accounts for 90% of all purchased tours. The rest are divided between resorts on the Aegean coast (Marmaris, Bodrum, Izmir) and Istanbul. Demand for Istanbul during the May holiday dates has also increased for tour operators (by 40-50%). The average check is around 90,000 rubles per person.
However, the overall increase in all tour sales for the May holidays has decreased for most companies, ranging from 15 to 40%.
Experts attribute this to Turkey drawing some demand away from other international destinations this year.
Turkey's share in all sales of long tours for the May holidays ranges from 42 to 46% according to various data. Tourists prefer seaside vacations in quality all-inclusive hotels.
