A man responsible for a fatal car accident in Cyprus 18 years ago is set to appear in court today, after being on the run for nearly two decades.

According to police, the accident occurred on the evening of November 17, 2006, at around 9:00 p.m. on the Ayios Neophytos–Tremithousa road. The then-42-year-old foreign driver was transporting his 18-year-old son, his 38-year-old brother, and his brother's 34-year-old wife.

At a certain intersection, the driver lost control of the car, which skidded off the road into a field and overturned. Tragically, the 34-year-old passenger, Lisa Jane Bissenden, was killed in the crash.

The driver was initially arrested that night as part of the investigation. However, he was released with the expectation that charges would be filed and a court date would be set. Instead of facing trial, the man fled the island, returning to his home country, and has been on the run ever since.

After 18 years, the suspect, now 60, returned to Cyprus and was arrested upon arrival. He is scheduled to appear before the Paphos District Court today.
