In 2023, more than 80 people died in road accidents throughout Cyprus
Over the past year, 81 people have lost their lives in road traffic incidents on the island of Cyprus. Of these, 48 fatal accidents occurred in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), and 33 people died on the roads of the Republic of Cyprus.
According to the TRNC police, the year 2023 has set a record for the number of people who lost their lives on the country's roads in the northern part of the island over the past five years.
In 2018, 24 people died in road traffic incidents, in 2019 - 32, in 2020 - 28, in 2021 - 35, and in 2022 - 24.
In total, over five years, from January 1, 2018, to December 28, 2023, 191 people have died in accidents on the roads of the TRNC.
Regarding the Republic of Cyprus, it was previously reported that from January 1 to December 27, 2023, 31 fatal accidents were registered in the country, resulting in the death of 33 people.
According to the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), in 2022, Cyprus recorded 37 fatal accidents, while the previous year saw 45 fatalities on the country's roads.
