Nearly 50,000 Vehicles Registered in Cyprus in 2024

According to the latest figures from the government’s statistical service, vehicle registrations in Cyprus rose by 9.1% in 2024, reaching 49,616 compared to 45,494 in 2023. The proportion of electric vehicles has more than doubled.

The share of electric vehicles in total registrations increased from 2.7% in 2023 to 4%, while hybrid vehicles grew from 29.6% to 37.1%.

Passenger car registrations grew by 4.9%, reaching 38,410 compared to 36,608 the previous year. Of these, 39.2% were new cars, and 60.8% were used.

Gasoline-powered vehicles made up 48.6% of all registrations, a decrease from 57.5% in 2023, while diesel vehicles accounted for 10.3%, up from the previous year.

The number of commercial vehicle registrations jumped by 32.9%, reaching 5,811 in 2024, compared to 4,374 in 2023.

The number of motorcycles also increased: mopeds with engines under 50cc saw a two-fold rise, reaching 690 compared to 321 in 2023. The number of motorcycles with engines over 50cc grew by 17.4%, reaching 3,903 compared to 3,324.

Japan continues to be the leading exporter of cars to Cyprus, making up 40.6% of registrations, followed by Germany (13.9%), the UK (6.7%), France (6.5%), and South Korea (4.2%).

It’s also worth noting that the most popular vehicle color last year was white, which accounted for 36.6% of all registrations. This was followed by gray (19.9%), black (14.8%), blue (8.9%), and silver (7.4%).

As previously reported, the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Cyprus announced plans to set up 10 public fast-charging stations for electric vehicles by the end of 2025.
