Nurse Attacked at Nicosia General Hospital
The nursing branch of PASYDY has strongly condemned an attack on a nurse by a visitor in the emergency department of Nicosia General Hospital. According to the union, no adequate measures have been implemented at the facility to ensure staff safety.
Reports indicate that the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when a visitor accompanying a patient physically assaulted a nurse.
- “Unfortunately, we are once again witnessing violent attacks against healthcare workers by members of the public. We are deeply alarmed and outraged by the apparent inability of the state, the Ministries of Justice and Health, as well as OKYPY, to safeguard us while we carry out our duties. It seems they remain indifferent to the violence occurring in public hospitals and to the physical well-being of healthcare professionals,” PASYDY stated in their announcement.
The union also noted that following a similar incident approximately two months ago, nurses had been anticipating measures from the authorities to enhance security, but no actions have been taken.
PASYDY expressed its solidarity with the assaulted nurse, offering support and sympathy. However, details about the nature of the attack and the nurse's current condition have not been disclosed.
