What to Do This Weekend: Events Across Cyprus
This weekend, Cyprus comes alive with a wide range of events — from village festivals celebrating seasonal fruits to live concerts and cultural performances.
Culture in the City
The 28th Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus begins this week in Old Nicosia and will run throughout June and July. Held at the Michalis Pieris Cultural Centre (UCy), the festival will host a variety of events, including theatre, dance, music, literature, and poetry.
The opening performance of the 2025 festival takes place tonight — a music-theatre piece titled “Of the Dead Brother”, starring Nicolette Verekkiou and Elena Pavlidou, with Pavlina Konstantopoulou joining on stage as musician.
This week also marks the start of the 26th Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival, featuring performances from around the world. On Friday, choreographer Ali Chahrour’s piece “Love Behind My Eyes” will be performed at Rialto Theatre in Limassol, which will host all the festival’s performances — except one.
The only show outside Limassol is “Sunday’s Full Moon” by Josef Nadj, taking place at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, and later at Rialto on June 11.
Village Fruit Festivals
This weekend, several villages across Cyprus will be celebrating their local summer fruits.
-
Friday: Head to Deryneia for its famous Strawberry Festival. A strawberry cake competition will crown the best local baker, and the evening will close with live performances by popular Greek artists.
-
Saturday & Sunday: The mountain village of Kambos tis Tsakistras will host its annual Cherry Festival, with stalls selling fresh cherries and traditional foods. There will also be workshops for children and adults.
Live Music in Nicosia
If you're staying in the capital, there's plenty of music to enjoy:
-
On Friday at 7:30 PM, vocal group Vox Nova brings its nostalgic doo-wop sound to Ktirion 53.
-
On Saturday, the Ermis Michail Trio will perform at Sarah’s Jazz Club, offering a night of smooth jazz.
