An explosion occurred in an apartment of a residential building in Athienou: a man was injured
An explosion rocked an apartment in a residential building in Athienou. According to preliminary data, the cause was a gas leak from a heater cylinder in the bedroom. As a result of the incident, a man was seriously injured.
According to emergency services, around 9:00 PM on February 13, there was a gas leak from the cylinder located in a gas heater in the bedroom on the first floor of a two-story building in Athienou.
"One person in the bedroom sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to the emergency department of Larnaca General Hospital. Significant damage was caused to the bedroom, furniture, and equipment as a result of the explosion," the statement said.
At the time of the explosion, the man's wife and their three-year-old child were also in the apartment but fortunately, they were not injured.
The fire service began inspecting and ventilating the premises, and the circumstances of the explosion will be investigated by the police in collaboration with the electrical service.
