Ermou Street in Larnaca reopens after reconstruction

From 19 November, Ermou Street (Ερμού) in Larnaca will reopen to traffic after reconstruction works were completed about a month ahead of schedule. Initially, the opening was planned for 15 December, but thanks to coordination with the contractor, the works were finished earlier.
The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, noted that reopening the street will support the city’s commercial center ahead of the Christmas holidays. “The reconstruction was difficult but necessary,” he stressed, adding that the works affected not only the road but also the infrastructure: electricity, water supply, sewage and telecommunications.
The street will become more convenient for pedestrians: sidewalks have been widened and areas for people with disabilities have been provided. New municipal and private parking areas have been opened in Larnaca for visitors to the commercial center.
The mayor also stated that canopies, urban equipment and modern LED lighting will soon appear on the streets. As support for shopkeepers during the reconstruction, the city exempted them from tax payments.
