A high-profile crime took place in Limassol this morning, which police have classified as a premeditated murder with signs of a mafia-style execution. An unidentified assailant shot a man while he was inside his car.

According to police, the attack occurred in the Agia Fyla area around 8:00 a.m. The attacker, riding a motorcycle, approached the parked vehicle and fired several close-range shots. The perpetrator then fled the scene. Witnesses called the police and ambulance, but the arriving doctors could only confirm the man’s death.

The scene has been cordoned off, and an investigation team is working on site. Police have launched a large-scale operation to locate the shooter, checking surveillance cameras along the road from the Agia Fyla roundabout to the Troodos roundabout. Investigators stated that the nature of the crime indicates a pre-planned attack.

Unofficially, the victim is said to have previously headed the “Karmiotissa Polemidion” football club, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed. Sources claim that his name had appeared in previous investigations, strengthening suspicions that the murder is linked to organized crime.

Cyprus police are urging witnesses to report any information that could help identify the shooter and his motives. An official statement on the case is expected within the next few hours.
