Carnival Celebrations in Limassol and Nicosia Draw Large Crowds
On Sunday, February 23, despite the chilly weather, Cyprus celebrated its annual carnivals in full swing. Thousands of children and adults flooded the streets, donning vibrant and creative costumes.
Before the parade kicked off, Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis addressed the crowd:
"Carnival is a celebration of freedom, creativity, and joy. It’s an opportunity to break free from the everyday routine, wear the wildest costumes, and become anything our hearts desire. Carnival is about leaving behind the worries of daily life, letting our imaginations soar, and celebrating life itself. Let the children show us how it’s done!" said the mayor.
The parade, which featured 64 teams, marched down Limassol's main street, led by the King of Confetti. It concluded with a fun-filled children’s festival, offering food, drinks, and musical performances.
Meanwhile, another carnival parade took place in Aglandjia, a suburb of Nicosia, attracting thousands of revelers. The parade began at 11:30 AM on Kyrenia Avenue and ended on Archaion Solon Street.
The parade organizers were thrilled by the large turnout, with an overwhelming number of participants. After the procession, a festive party with games for children and entertainment for the parents took place.
