Polish Tourist Missing at Sea off the Coast of Cyprus — Search Ongoing by Helicopter
A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway off the coast of Cyprus, in the waters of Chrysochous Bay, for a missing Polish tourist. Although his boat has already been found, there is still no sign of the man himself.
According to the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, the NEARCHOS National Emergency Response Plan was activated on the afternoon of April 22 after authorities received information about a missing person in the Chrysochous Bay area. The tourist had been aboard a rented inflatable boat. The search is being coordinated by the Republic of Cyprus’s Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
The missing man has been identified as a 36-year-old tourist from Poland. He had departed from Latsi Port at around 10 a.m. for a short solo excursion along the coastline. At approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the public spotted the boat adrift near Argaka, roughly 200 meters from the shore—but the man was no longer on board.
Rescue teams were immediately deployed, including marine and port police vessels, a National Guard helicopter, and additional police units. The search continued through the night, but so far has been unsuccessful. Only the boat has been recovered.
The operation resumed at first light this morning, with search and rescue teams continuing efforts to locate the missing tourist.
