Free Cyprus Symphony Orchestra concert to take place in Nicosia on September 19 at Eleftheria Square
The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will perform in Nicosia on September 19 as part of the Music in the City event. The concert will start at 20:00 at Eleftheria Square, with free admission; for those unable to attend in person, the performance will be broadcast on CyBC Channel 2.
The organizers are the Friends of Nicosia Association and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation. The program will include popular works and waltzes by Adolf Fredrik Lindblad, Jean Sibelius, and Johann Strauss Jr. The event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Austria, Sweden, and Finland joining the EU and is held with the support of the embassies of these countries.
The orchestra will be conducted by Cypriot conductor Andreas Asiikkis, currently working in the Netherlands. Since September 2024, he has been studying in the NMO (National Master in Orchestral Conducting) program under Jacques van Steen, Ed Spanjaard, and Antoni Hermus. His biography includes collaborations with the Ballet Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera Academy, as well as performances with BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Cyprus Symphony, and Athens State Orchestra. In June 2024, a program under his direction was recorded for BBC Radio 3.
For attendees: a large crowd is expected, so organizers advise arriving early. Those unable to attend in person can watch the broadcast on CyBC 2.
