In Nicosia, the police thwarted a deal to sell half a ton of contraband beef
The Nicosia police arrested two men suspected of smuggling a large quantity of meat. One of them had the goods, while the other had the money to purchase it.
Yesterday afternoon, the police stopped a suspicious car for inspection, which was driving with its headlights off. Behind the wheel was a 41-year-old man.
During the subsequent search inside the car, about 500 kilograms of packaged beef were discovered.
At the same time, in the same area, another police patrol noticed and stopped another car, which was also driving with its headlights off.
During the search, a large sum of money was found on the 31-year-old driver, who, as he confessed, was intended for buying meat from the 41-year-old man in the first car.
Court orders have been issued against both detainees. They were arrested to assist in the investigation conducted by the Pera Chorio police.
