Christodoula March to Take Place in Nicosia: Road Closures and Schedule
On Saturday, April 12, Nicosia will host the Christodoula March, a significant event raising awareness about cancer. As a result, several roads in the capital will be temporarily closed.
The march will begin and end at the Arodafnussa Palliative Care Center. From 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, traffic will be gradually closed on the following streets:
- Dimitriou Hamatsou Street
- Parts of Joseph X Avenue
- Parts of Atalassas Avenue
- A section of Acropolis Avenue, extending up to the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center
Police officers will be stationed at key points along the route to help manage traffic and ensure smooth flow for vehicles.
The march is named after Christodoula, a cancer patient who was forcibly relocated from Famagusta in 1974 after the Turkish invasion. The United Nations advised her to seek refuge in Sotira, where she passed away under an orange tree.
The Christodoula March is considered the island's largest cancer awareness campaign. Its primary aim is to raise awareness about cancer and promote prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment options.
