Policeman Rescues Drowning Estonian Tourist in Paphos

In Paphos, a tourist from Estonia narrowly escaped drowning, thanks to a police officer who rescued the struggling man from the sea.

According to the police press service, the incident occurred on the morning of January 17, around 8:30. A 21-year-old Estonian citizen decided to swim in the rough sea and began to drown. His cries for help were heard by a police officer on the beach.

Rescue efforts for the drowning individual involved a coastguard boat, a police helicopter, and personnel from the Paphos Police Department. Two coastguard officers and a member of the Paphos ADE (Accident Detection and Eradication) team dove into the sea and successfully saved the drowning tourist.

As a result, the 21-year-old swimmer and three police officers suffered minor injuries from the waves hitting the coastal rocks. The injured individuals received first aid on the spot.
