New Fire Rages in Paphos Province: Village Evacuated Overnight
Firefighters in Paphos Province are once again battling a blaze. Emergency services are on high alert due to a major fire raging in the Paoura area.
According to Fire Service representative Andreas Ketti, the new fire broke out just before midnight to the southeast of the Kelo Kédhara community and between the communities of Kelo Kédhara and Trachypedoula.
Police and civil defense immediately issued instructions to evacuate the Trachypedoula community. All local residents gathered at a community café, awaiting further instructions.
At the same time, the “Icarus-2” plan was implemented: early in the morning, aircraft began dropping water on the fire hotspots. Ten fire trucks, four specialized vehicles, and earth moving machines are currently at the scene. Later, the firefighting air squad is expected to be reinforced by a helicopter from the British base, along with a police helicopter and two Egyptian aircraft.
The fire is being coordinated by local authorities in cooperation with the Director of the Forestry Department. The Minister of Justice and Public Order, as well as the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, have been informed about the situation.
It is worth noting that earlier, a large fire in Paphos Province was extinguished after three days of efforts.
