In the diet of Cypriot schoolchildren, there will be more vegetables and fruits
The diet of Cypriot schoolchildren will include more fruits and vegetables as well as milk. The program to improve the students' diet is funded by the European Union.
According to local media reports, the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization (Capo) recently completed payments totaling 748,567 euros under the program for supplying schools with fruits, vegetables, and milk for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The government of the country allocated a total of 21,709 euros to subsidize VAT expenses incurred by agricultural producers as part of the program.
The main goal of the EU program is to ensure a consistent increase in the share of fruits, vegetables, and milk in children's diets as their eating habits develop. It aims to promote proper and balanced nutrition, gradually improving the health of Cypriot children and adolescents.
"The program is also aimed at increasing children's knowledge of agricultural production and healthy eating, as well as achieving the goals of the Common Agricultural Policy, including increasing incomes in the agricultural sector, stabilizing markets, and promoting current and future agricultural product supplies," Capo stated.
