Cyclone Elena Brings Stormy Weather to Cyprus This Christmas: December 25 Forecast
The Republic of Cyprus Meteorological Department reports that Cyclone Elena, currently located in the southern Aegean Sea, is slowly moving southeastward and is already affecting the island.
Morning Weather
The first half of the day will be mostly cloudy, with rain and thunderstorms primarily in the west, south, and mountainous regions. These conditions are expected to expand to other parts of the island later in the day. Thunderstorms may bring hail, and snowfall is anticipated at the highest peaks of the Troodos Mountains.
Daytime Temperatures
Temperatures during the day are expected to reach:
- 17°C in inland areas,
- 21°C on the southern and eastern coasts,
- 20°C on other coastal regions,
- 7°C in the mountains.
Evening Weather
The evening will remain cloudy, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail is possible during storms, and the higher mountain areas are likely to see sleet or snow.
Nighttime Temperatures
Overnight, temperatures will drop to:
- 6°C in inland areas,
- 10°C along the coasts,
- 1°C in the mountains, where frost is expected to form.
Thursday and Friday Outlook
On Thursday and Friday, the weather will continue to be mostly cloudy, with occasional localized showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail remains a possibility during storms, and snowfall is forecast for higher elevations. However, by Friday evening, a significant improvement in weather conditions is expected.
Temperatures will drop further on Thursday, falling below the seasonal average. On Friday, no significant changes in temperature are anticipated.
