The authorities of Cyprus plan to introduce traffic safety lessons into the school curriculum. The initiative aims to improve road safety and develop children’s skills for proper behavior as pedestrians and future drivers.

According to the project, the lessons will focus on the basic rules for crossing streets, traffic light signals, road signs, and safe behavior near the roadway. Special attention will be given to practical skills: students will participate in educational games, thematic excursions, and interactive activities simulating real traffic situations.

The program is expected to be implemented gradually: first in pilot schools and then across all educational institutions in the country. Teachers will undergo special training, and methodological materials and teaching aids will be prepared for them. In addition, police officers and road safety experts are planned to be involved in the classes.

The initiative has already been supported by experts and public organizations, who emphasize that children need systematic knowledge about road traffic, especially under conditions of heavy traffic and a large number of tourists. In their opinion, the project will not only help reduce the risk of accidents involving minors but also form a culture of responsible road behavior from an early age.

If successfully implemented, Cyprus will become one of the first countries in the region where road safety education becomes an integral part of school education.
