Three Young Lives Tragically Lost in Cyprus Accident
This past weekend, a devastating car accident in Cyprus claimed the lives of three young men and left two others seriously injured. A three-day mourning period has been declared in their memory.
According to the police, the accident occurred late Saturday night on the Deryneia-Frenaros road. Shortly after midnight, a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old man collided with another car driven by an 18-year-old.
The crash tragically killed 20-year-olds Martinos Martis and Eirinios Adamou, as well as 18-year-old Nikolas Koutsou. All three young men were residents of Frenaros.
Two other individuals, aged 18 and 22, sustained severe injuries in the collision. They were rushed to Famagusta General Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, the 22-year-old was later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where his condition remains critical. The 18-year-old also remains in serious condition.
The force of the collision caused the first vehicle to veer off the road, crash into a tree, and catch fire. The 44-year-old driver and his 15-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. They were later discharged.
The driver of the first vehicle was arrested by police and has been charged with manslaughter due to negligence.
The municipalities of Paralimni and Deryneia have declared a three-day mourning period to honor the memory of the three young victims.
President Nikos Christodoulides expressed his condolences and described the accident as a heartbreaking tragedy for the entire community.
