Carnival and festive events cancelled in three Nicosia municipalities due to bad weather
Three municipalities in the Nicosia region — Lakatamia, Latsia–Geri, and South Nicosia–Idalion — have cancelled all carnival events and Clean Monday celebrations scheduled for the weekend due to expected unstable weather.
This refers to events planned for February 22 and 23, 2026. Events at four locations have been cancelled:
- at the 5th Lakatamia Primary School,
- at the Lakatamia Linear Park,
- in Lourka Forest (Latsia–Geri),
- in the "Paradissia" area (South Nicosia–Idalion).
The municipalities stated that the decision was made primarily for safety reasons and wished residents a peaceful start to Great Lent.
