Attempted arson in Troodos forest — passerby extinguished fire, police seized fuel
Around 21:00 yesterday evening, a small fire broke out in the Troodos area, which was promptly extinguished by a passerby. According to the Fire Service and the Department of Forests, fire trucks from Moniatis also arrived at the scene.

Upon inspecting the site, rescuers and Department of Forests personnel discovered a flammable substance — «στεγνό πετρέλαιο» (described as a dry petroleum product). The material was seized by police for examination, which allowed authorities to promptly suspect deliberate arson. Appropriate checks are being conducted regarding the incident.
Authorities have increased patrolling in the Troodos area and other vulnerable zones to prevent similar incidents during periods of high fire risk. Residents and visitors are advised to be vigilant: if smoke or fire is detected, immediately report to emergency services and, if possible, avoid approaching the source.
The investigation continues, with police examining circumstances and possible evidence pointing to the involvement of perpetrators.
