In the center of Limassol, a monument of architecture where homeless people used to spend the night caught fire
A major fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon in a historic building in the city center of Limassol. The object is listed as a monument of architecture and is located on Ifigenia Street, near the Technological University.
According to Andreas Kettis, a representative of the fire department, the fire broke out around 11:30. Four fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, one of which is equipped with a hydraulic ladder.
According to messages and comments from users on social media, the building has been abandoned for several years. Homeless people often used it as a place to spend the night.
According to a representative of the fire department, four individuals managed to leave the building before the firefighters arrived.
Currently, the firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire, and an investigation is underway to search for people who may have remained in the building. There is a risk of the fire spreading to neighboring buildings.
