Fire in Central Nicosia Leads to Evacuation of Apartment Building
A fire in central Nicosia prompted the evacuation of a multi-story apartment building. The blaze was caused by a gas heater.
According to emergency services, the fire began around 11:00 PM in a bedroom on the third floor of a seven-story building in Agios Dometios.
Fire service spokesperson Andrea Ketti reported that four fire crews from Nicosia’s fire stations responded to the scene. With the assistance of rescue teams and police, approximately 20 residents were evacuated from the upper floors. The remaining residents were able to evacuate their apartments on their own.
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the building to ensure no one was trapped and ventilated the affected areas.
The fire caused significant damage to apartments on the third, fourth, and fifth floors. Several residents suffered from smoke inhalation, and one person had to be transported by ambulance to the emergency department at Nicosia General Hospital.
