In the heart of Nicosia, dozens of poisoned pigeons have been found
Dozens of dead pigeons were discovered in the old town of Nicosia. The Green Party alleges that the birds were deliberately poisoned.
News of the pigeon deaths and accusations from the Green Party surfaced following a Facebook post by Antonis Kupparis, a candidate for deputy mayor.
The politician claims that someone scattered seeds laced with poison in the areas of Ledra, Onasagorou, Rigenis, and Eleftherias Square in the old town of the capital.
The Green Party has demanded that the police, with the assistance of the municipality, swiftly identify those responsible. They point out that many shops in the area have surveillance cameras, and there are also cameras installed by the city authorities.
"This is a crime of immense proportions. Some may not realize it, but in addition to the cruelty of the poisoning, the lives of small children in this area, as well as neighboring cats, are also at risk," stated the party.
