53 Illegal Immigrants Detained in Cyprus Over the Weekend
Over the weekend, the Republic of Cyprus police detained 53 illegal immigrants during a coordinated interagency operation. The operation was carried out early Sunday morning in the Polis Chrysochous area.
According to a statement from the police press office, the raids began at approximately 2:00 a.m. and continued until 8:00 a.m.
Officers from the Aliens and Immigration Unit, in collaboration with police from all districts, arrested 53 foreign nationals found residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus.
Of those detained, 28 have already been deported to their countries of origin, while deportation procedures for the remaining individuals are ongoing.
It’s worth noting that nearly 10,000 illegal immigrants were deported from Cyprus last year.
