Entrance to all museums in Cyprus will be free tomorrow
On Thursday, April 18, entrance to museums and archaeological sites in Cyprus will be free for all visitors. This day annually marks the International Day for Monuments and Sites.
The International Day for Monuments and Sites was established by UNESCO in 1983. The Department of Antiquities stated that free admission to landmarks and museums aims to raise public awareness about the importance of culture.
Every year, a new theme is promoted. This year, the event will focus on the theme "Saving Monuments from Destruction and Catastrophe" and the Venice Charter of 1964-2024 for the protection of cultural heritage.
The opening of an archaeological site near the Paphos Gate in Nicosia, scheduled for a few days later on April 22, is also associated with the International Day for Monuments and Sites. Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Cassianidou will participate in the event.
Other planned activities will mainly focus on the educational sphere to familiarize youth with the cultural heritage of the island.
