Flu Outbreak Detected in Cyprus Alongside Covid-19
In recent weeks, the Republic of Cyprus has seen a noticeable increase in the number of both viral and bacterial infections. Following the rise in Covid-19 cases, healthcare professionals have reported an outbreak of the flu: hospitals are admitting patients with severe symptoms of influenza A and B.
A representative of the State Health Services Organization (Okypy) stated that hospitals are admitting patients with severe flu symptoms. The majority of those affected are elderly individuals who are receiving assistance in pulmonary units and wards designated for Covid-19 patients.
It is worth noting that earlier reports indicated a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the Republic of Cyprus towards the end of last year and the beginning of this year. The number of patients increased by a third. Previously, a representative of Okypy also criticized the Ministry of Health's decision to approve the request of private clinics not to admit patients with Covid-19.
Additionally, this week, the Cyprus Pharmaceutical Association (CPA) confirmed its readiness to participate in the Covid-19 vaccination process and administer vaccines in pharmacies.
