Implementation of weather alerts in Cyprus postponed for another year
The implementation of emergency weather alerts, which will be sent to all mobile phones, will come into effect in Cyprus next year. The tender for managing the system will be resumed due to appeals received.
According to a representative of Civil Defense, Panayiotis Liasides, the delay is due to two appeals filed against the tender announced for managing the system.
It is worth reminding that last year, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Konstantinos Ioannou, stated that the alert system would be operational by 2024.
However, according to Panayiotis Liasides, the alert system will not be operational before 2025. Due to the appeals, the tender for the alert system will be resumed.
It is expected that with the help of the system and a special application, the public will be informed about earthquakes, fires, and other extreme weather conditions through text messages. Messages will be sent in Greek and English.
