Police Officer Injured in Limassol Car Chase
A dramatic police chase in Limassol last night ended with an officer injured after being hit by a fleeing vehicle. One suspect has been arrested, while two others are still on the run.
According to the police press office, officers from Limassol’s motorized patrol unit—responsible for preventing burglaries and break-ins—spotted a suspicious car parked in an open lot. Inside were three individuals.
As the officers approached the vehicle and identified themselves, the driver suddenly threw the car into reverse, striking one of the officers before speeding away.
A high-speed chase followed, during which the suspects repeatedly broke traffic laws. The pursuit ended in a head-on collision with another vehicle. In an effort to stop them, officers fired warning shots into the air.
After the crash, the three suspects abandoned the car and tried to escape on foot. Police managed to capture the 53-year-old driver, who was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. A search of the vehicle uncovered burglary tools, gloves, and masks.
The injured officer was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he was treated and later discharged.
The investigation is ongoing.
