Cyprus to Inspect Water Reservoirs After Reports of Trapped Animals
The Cyprus Water Development Department will conduct additional inspections of reservoirs and water storage facilities, as well as their surrounding areas, to help prevent animals from becoming trapped.
Concerns were raised after several animals were recently found stuck in abandoned water tanks.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced the upcoming inspections, with Minister Maria Panayiotou stating that fences and escape routes will be checked, and repairs will be ordered if necessary. She also highlighted that newly constructed artificial ponds will serve as safe exit points for trapped animals.
The minister further urged owners of small private reservoirs to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of animals getting trapped. Suggested steps include installing fences, adding ramps, and conducting regular maintenance.
