Within a day, 458 migrants arrived in Cyprus on six boats
Off the coast of Cyprus, six boats with illegal migrants were detected simultaneously. In total, 458 people arrived in the country.
According to the police press service, six boats with illegal immigrants were detected yesterday at noon by radars in the maritime area of Cape Greco. Coastal and marine police boats arrived in this area, after which the vessels with refugees were safely brought to the Ayia Napa pier.
After registering all arriving citizens, they were transferred to the Pournara Temporary Refugee Center.
The first boat contained 30 people, the second 24, the third 62, the fourth 37, the fifth 22, and the sixth 283. Among the arrivals were more than 150 children, including over 30 unaccompanied minors.
Immigrants informed the police that six boats had departed from Lebanon. Each passenger paid three thousand dollars to an unknown person.
Based on the migrants' testimonies, two individuals aboard the sixth boat were arrested: a 31-year-old man from Lebanon and a 23-year-old man from Syria. It is expected that both individuals will appear before the Famagusta District Court today for a decision on their detention.
Recall that earlier it was reported that since the beginning of the year, more than two thousand foreign nationals have been deported or repatriated from the Republic of Cyprus.
