Sick Sailor Evacuated by Helicopter from Ship off the Coast of Cyprus
The Cyprus Coast Guard activated the National Plan E-D NEARCHOS today for the aerial transport of a crew member from the cargo ship 'MGD JOY,' sailing under the flag of Malta. The 57-year-old crew member of the cargo ship MGD Joy fell ill and required medical assistance.
According to local media reports, the cargo ship was located 110 nautical miles southwest of Cyprus within the responsibility zone of the Republic of Cyprus (RoC Nicosia). To conduct the aerial evacuation, a helicopter from the 460MED Air Command of the Hellenic Air Force was deployed, with a qualified paramedic from the emergency medical service on board.
At 10:15, the injured person was safely transported to the General Hospital of Paphos for further treatment.
