Hotel occupancy in Cyprus during Kataklysmos reached 80%

During the three-day celebration of Kataklysmos, hotel occupancy in coastal cities of Cyprus reached 80%. The majority of tourist traffic was concentrated in Paphos and the Famagusta District.

According to Tanos Michaelidis, President of the Hotel Association (Pasyxe), the recent three-day holidays were satisfactory, although overall tourist traffic this year will slightly decrease compared to 2023.

Regarding the upcoming summer tourist season, the guild president noted it would be slightly lower than last year, with hotel occupancy expected to decrease by 5-10%.

An expert highlighted that last-minute bookings could somewhat improve the overall outlook. However, the British market, traditionally dominant in the country's tourism industry, is not developing at desired rates this year.

Ongoing military conflicts in Israel and Ukraine also negatively impact tourist flows to Cyprus.

Meanwhile, there is an increasing influx of tourists towards Paphos, primarily due to the resumption of flights from Israel.

Based on bookings for the first semester, there are reasons to believe that tourism in Paphos will continue to grow in 2024, as the province strengthens its position among the preferences of several European countries.

Countries like Poland, Hungary, Austria, as well as France and Italy, are increasingly playing a key role in the province's tourism landscape.
