Woman Lived Illegally in Cyprus for Eight Years: Worked at an Ice Cream Café in Paphos
The Paphos police have arrested a 35-year-old woman who had been living illegally on the island since 2016. The migrant had been using someone else's identity while working at an ice cream café.
According to the Assistant Director of Paphos Police, officers from the Foreigners and Immigration Service apprehended the woman at her workplace.
When asked for her identification, the woman presented a Georgian passport. A further investigation revealed that she had arrived on the island in October 2016 and had been living illegally in the Republic since November of that year.
During questioning, her employer revealed that the woman had shown a Greek ID card with her photo but under a different name, likely to enable her to register with the social security system and obtain legal work permission in the Republic.
The woman has been arrested and is now under investigation for forgery, using a false identity, possessing a counterfeit document, and illegal residency in the Republic.
