Loud Explosions Near Limassol Marina Spark Panic Among Residents
Panic broke out in Limassol late last night after a series of loud explosions were heard near the city’s new yacht marina. The noise, which alarmed many residents, was later confirmed to have come from fireworks.
The disturbance began shortly after 11:00 PM, when a powerful blast was followed by several smaller explosions. Flames lit up the night sky, accompanied by thick black smoke, adding to the confusion and fear.
According to Fire Service Chief Nikos Longinos, the explosions were caused by unidentified individuals who launched fireworks in a nearby field. The fireworks sparked a fire within 30 meters of the marina, reportedly starting in a storage area.
Firefighters, police, and members of the pyrotechnics unit quickly arrived on the scene. Thanks to their rapid response, the blaze was contained before it could spread to the marina or nearby shipping containers.
Two parked cars near the area sustained fire damage. The incident is currently under investigation by the Fire Service’s pyrotechnics division.
