Residents of Kokkinotrimithia complain about attacks by stray dogs: pets injured

Residents of the village of Kokkinotrimithia in the Nicosia district are concerned about a series of attacks by stray dogs on domestic animals. In recent weeks, numerous cases have been reported where packs of aggressive dogs attacked pets right in the yards of private homes.
According to locals, the animals move in groups of 5–7 and behave very aggressively, especially in the evening and at night. People say the attacks happen suddenly, and several cats and dogs have already been injured. In some cases, owners tried to protect their pets but failed — the animals act in an organized manner and attack all at once.
Residents have repeatedly contacted the municipality and police, demanding action and the capture of dangerous dogs. According to local authorities, responsibility for controlling stray animals lies with the Veterinary Service and municipal departments. However, no effective measures have yet been taken.
Locals express outrage at the inaction of the authorities, emphasizing that the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous not only for pets but also for people, especially children. They call for stricter control, installation of surveillance cameras, and systematic capture of stray dogs.
The problem of stray animals in Kokkinotrimithia is not new. Activists say similar incidents occur regularly because some residents abandon unwanted puppies on the outskirts of the village, where they quickly become feral and form packs. Experts urge the creation of a municipal shelter and a sterilization program to curb population growth.
