The oldest tree of Ayia Napa
Description
The 600-year-old sycamore is the oldest tree in Ayia Napa.
Legend has it that this tree was planted by a Venetian noblewoman who lived in Famagusta. Her father refused her request to marry the man she loved, considering him not wealthy enough. Instead of marrying another, the woman ran away and found refuge in a forest cave. There she planted the tree that still grows today and has become one of the symbols of Ayia Napa. She also founded a monastery there, established an olive press, and devoted herself to serving God.
