Kakopetria is one of the most atmospheric mountain villages of Cyprus, where natural landscapes, traditional lifestyle, and winter festivities merge into a unique atmosphere.

Below you will find a brief overview of the village, the Troodos region, and the Rock Christmas Village.

Village of Kakopetria

The village of Kakopetria is one of the most picturesque mountain villages in Cyprus. It is located on the slopes of the Troodos mountain range, 55 km from Nicosia, on the Karkotis (Klarion) River. Location.

The river, full-flowing even in summer, determined the main occupations of the residents. Along the river lie vineyards, as well as apple, peach, apricot, pear, and plum orchards. Potatoes and tomatoes are grown here, and wine and Zivania are produced. Livestock graze on the evergreen slopes. Two water mills were built on the river — one of them has now been converted into the Water Mills hotel and restaurant.

In addition to agriculture, the residents of Kakopetria were engaged in silkworm breeding and silk production. It is known that during World War II, Great Britain used silk from Kakopetria to make parachutes.
