Traditional Christmas Market in Lefkara Village
Every year in the second half of November, the traditional Christmas market opens in the village of Lefkara — one of the most beautiful and atmospheric winter events in the Larnaca region.
Traditional Cypriot village Lefkara
The mountain village of Lefkara, located in the Larnaca region, is divided into Pano Lefkara and Kato Lefkara (Upper and Lower Lefkara) and is world-famous for its traditional crafts — lace embroidery Lefkaritika and filigree silver.
Lefkara is at the foot of the Troodos mountains, 650 meters above sea level and 43 km from Larnaca. Location. Accessible via A5, A1, and E105 highways. The Lefkaritika tradition is said to have started in the Venetian period, with local artisans passing down the embroidery techniques through generations.
Legend has it that in 1481 Leonardo da Vinci himself visited the village and bought a lace tablecloth for the altar of Milan’s Duomo Cathedral.
Lefkara is very picturesque: narrow stone streets, terracotta-roofed houses, small courtyards, and artisan workshops create a unique atmosphere of a traditional Cypriot settlement. The village is also part of the famous 7th Wine Route of Cyprus, crossing the mountainous Larnaca–Nicosia region.
Attractions in Lefkara include the Folklore Museum, an old olive mill, and a historic stone fountain. Notable old churches are Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) and the Chapel of Archangel Michael in Kato Lefkara, decorated with Byzantine frescoes from the 12th–15th centuries.
