Alagadi Beach, known as Turtle Beach, is a gem of Northern Cyprus, located just 16 km from Kyrenia.

This natural corner attracts travelers with its pristine beauty, soft golden sand, and crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. But the main feature of Alagadi is the opportunity to see rare sea turtles in their natural habitat.

Infrastructure at Alagadi Beach

Alagadi Beach preserves its natural authenticity, so the infrastructure is minimal. There is no electricity or water supply on the premises, and there are no shops or changing rooms. However, in the western part of the beach, there is a small restaurant where you can try freshly prepared fish and local snacks.

The restaurant uses a generator to provide energy. Paid toilets and showers are available near the restaurant. Visitors are advised to bring all necessary supplies for a comfortable stay, including water, umbrellas, and towels.

Turtle Sanctuary at Alagadi Beach

Alagadi is not just a beach, but an important sanctuary for the sea turtle species Chelonia mydas and Caretta caretta. Every year, from late May to early June, these amazing creatures come ashore to lay their eggs in the soft sand. About 50–60 days later, usually at night, the hatchlings emerge from the eggs and head toward the sea.

To protect these rare species, strict rules are in place on the beach: making bonfires, leaving litter, and driving on the shore are prohibited. Environmental organizations conduct tours and inform visitors about the importance of preserving the turtles and their habitat.

How to Get to Alagadi Beach

Alagadi Beach can be easily reached by car. From Kyrenia, head east along the coastal road for about 16 km. Three dirt roads lead from the main road to the beach, each ending in a parking area with trash containers. The location of the beach on the map can be found below the text. The turn to the main bay of the beach is located at these coordinates: 35.33018733266156, 33.49717252692619.

There is no public transport to the beach, so renting a car is the best option for visiting this spot. However, there are several minibuses (dolmuses) that go to the village of Esentepe several times a day. You just need to tell the driver to stop at the turnoff for the beach, then walk down the dirt road to the beach.
