Doctors' association demands creation of emergency headquarters after heavy rains in Northern Cyprus
The Cyprus Turkish Doctors Association (CTDA) stated on 09.12.2025 at 11:19 that over the past 24 hours, intense rainfall in Northern Cyprus has caused floods, road closures, and serious disruptions in transport services.
The statement noted that it is necessary to immediately assess flood risks and take protective and safety measures, particularly regarding the lower floors of Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and the Emergency Hospital, which were directly affected by water flow from the riverbed in Nicosia.
The association calls for the creation of an Emergency Headquarters to coordinate the actions of all services and local authorities, and strongly recommends temporarily suspending classes in schools and universities in the interest of public health.
To ensure continuity of emergency medical care, the document proposes promptly identifying alternative routes to medical centers and implementing a priority movement order for ambulances and medical staff if necessary.
It is reported that Civil Defense continues operations in the field. Residents are advised to carefully follow authorities' instructions and refrain from non-essential travel.
