Bafra: the first stage of the improvement project worth over 7 million lira has begun
Local authorities have launched the start of work on the “Bafra Facilities Improvement Project” in the tourist area of Bafra: a tender for the procurement of materials has been announced, the municipality of Mehmetçik – Büyükkonuk reported. The project is financed by the municipality’s own funds and with the support of the Office for Development and Economic Cooperation of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia; the estimated cost exceeds 7 million Turkish lira.
Within the framework of the project, a large public space is planned, with modern shopping rows and kiosks for producers, green areas, recreation spots, parking lots, and pedestrian walkways. The work is aimed at uniting the tourism and production potential of the region.
The direct beneficiaries will be the fishermen of the Kumyalı and Balalan ports, craftswomen and workshops from the villages (including Pamuklu, KeçAda and KozAda), producers from the Büyükkonuk Ecotourism Association, participants of the “Lefkara Evi” project in Çayirova and rural women’s courses, as well as farmers and livestock breeders, the administration noted.
According to Mayor Dr. Fatma Çimen Tuğlu, the project is designed not only to improve the external appearance of the area, but also to create new outlets for local producers and attract tourists and workers. The first step — the tender for materials — has already started; the completion dates of the works have not been specified. For residents, this promises an improvement in infrastructure and the expansion of opportunities for direct sales of local products.
