More Britons Traveling to Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
According to data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, international flights from the UK increased by 7.4% in the first 11 months of 2024, reaching a total of 237 million passengers. Britons are now traveling to Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) more frequently.
Specifically, the number of trips to Turkey grew by 15%, reaching more than 10.8 million visits. Istanbul saw a 15% increase in popularity, Antalya rose by 17%, and Mugla saw a 9.3% jump in visits.
However, Turkey's share of the British market slightly dropped from 30% to 29%. Within Turkey itself, Istanbul accounted for 34%, while Antalya made up 31% of the total.
According to the Ministry of Tourism of the TRNC, the number of passengers arriving in the TRNC by air and sea from January to November 2024 rose by 19.2%, totaling 2,011,464 people. Visitors from Turkey increased by 22.7%, while those from other countries grew by 3.6%.
The occupancy rate of tourist accommodations in 2024 is estimated at 46%, slightly higher than the 45.4% recorded during the same period last year.
In 2024, Spain emerged as the top destination for British travelers, welcoming 43.2 million visitors.
Other popular destinations include the United States, Italy, France, and the Netherlands.
