Four Young People Arrested in Northern Cyprus for Lighting Bonfire During Storm
Four individuals in Northern Cyprus have been arrested and are facing criminal charges after lighting a bonfire during a severe storm. Despite the strong hurricane-force winds, the group decided to relax in a designated picnic area on the Bosphorus.
The incident was highlighted by the Mayor of Kyrenia, Murat Şenkul, on his social media page. According to the mayor, several young people were seen starting a fire in the picnic area despite the dangerous weather conditions. Concerned citizens noticed the fire and quickly alerted the fire department.
Fortunately, municipal emergency services were in the area, responding to a separate call about a fallen tree. They arrived at the scene, extinguished the fire, and helped prevent a larger disaster.
The police, who arrived shortly after, arrested the individuals involved. Criminal charges have been filed against them for their reckless behavior.
It’s important to note that on Sunday, Northern Cyprus experienced extreme weather, with powerful winds uprooting trees, tearing off roofs, and causing stationary structures to shift. Widespread power outages occurred, and several roads were closed due to debris.
