Number of Passengers at Ercan Airport Increases by Almost a Third
The number of passengers at Ercan Airport has increased by 28% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year, with the number of flights rising by 17.44%.
According to T&T Airport Management, 1,704,481 passengers used the old Ercan Airport in the first half of 2023. With the opening of the new terminal, passenger numbers surged to 2,181,947 in the first half of 2024. Similarly, the number of flights increased from 11,980 in the first six months of 2023 to 14,069 in the same period of 2024.
A key factor in this growth was the extension of the airport's runway to 3,000 meters, allowing it to accommodate wide-body aircraft.
Specifically, with the new runway, Ercan Airport started receiving wide-body aircraft such as the A-350 from airlines like Turkish Airlines, SunExpress, and others.
