The TRNC delegation returned from Adıyaman, where they participated in the second hearing regarding the Grand Isias hotel case, in which 72 people, including 35 Turkish Cypriots, died in the collapse during the earthquake on February 6, 2023.

Members of the "Life-Supporting Angel Champions Association," families of the deceased, as well as deputies, lawyers, and officials, were present at the court hearing.

The second hearing for the Grand Isias hotel case took place last Friday at the Third High Criminal Court of Adıyaman. Several interim decisions were made during the court session.

In particular, the court decided to detain three of the accused - Ahmet Bozkurt, Mehmet Fatih Bozkurt, and Erdem Yıldız. The trial of the remaining eight defendants will continue without detention, subject to judicial control.

The court also decided to request another expert report from another technical university, in addition to Gazi University.

After returning to Northern Cyprus, the chairman of the temporary special committee established to monitor the legal and judicial process, Member of Parliament Oguzhan Hasipoglu, noted that the government believes justice will prevail sooner or later.

"From the expert testimonies we heard on April 26, we clearly see that the case should be reclassified as a possible intent," stated the politician, adding that the request for a new expert opinion is an important development.

Recall that the first hearing for the Grand Isias hotel case took place in the Supreme Criminal Court of Adıyaman in January. Following the hearings, which lasted several days, the court issued several temporary decisions.

The lawyers representing the families of the Angel Champions objected to the decisions made. The second hearing was scheduled for Friday, April 26. About 100 Turkish Cypriots were present.

The next court hearing is scheduled for June 12 at 10:00.
