SOS Children's Village in North Cyprus Being Renovated Under Five-Year Protocol with KTİMB
Extensive renovation works have begun at the SOS Children's Village in North Cyprus as part of a five-year protocol signed with the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association (KTİMB). The protocol was signed in August 2025 and finalized in October; the work is being carried out in stages.
In the first stage, 13 houses were renovated: 30 bathrooms were completely updated—tiles, shower cabins, and plumbing were replaced, along with toilets and sinks. All houses received interior painting for walls and doors, and children's and living rooms were refurbished; exterior finishing work was also completed. All materials and labor costs were covered by KTİMB.
The second stage involves replacing the street lighting throughout the village, followed by renovation work at the kindergarten. According to the management, the existing lighting poles have been in use since 1991 and require urgent replacement due to corrosion and the risk of falling.
SOS Children's Village Programme Manager Münür Yücekal and Director Bora Liman thanked the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association (KTİMB) for their contribution. The facility is home to 64 children, with an average of six children per house; the organization called on other institutions and concerned citizens to support additional needs for improving playgrounds and sports areas.
